How entertainment businesses can boost fan engagement

The fundamentals of fan engagement haven't changed — triggering a genuine emotional response — but the tools for doing so, and the fragmentation of channels fans move across, have transformed dramatically.

Give the user control

Decentralised digital identities let consumers own their own data and deal directly with organisations rather than through platforms like Facebook or Instagram, removing messy vendor integrations and keeping personal data secure.

Build community, and personalise with data

Fans, especially younger ones, respond to being brought into a genuine community — through NFTs, the metaverse, or causes they care about — rather than one-way broadcast communication. Combining first- and third-party data through tools like Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Customer Insights lets organisations understand how each individual actually responds to an offer, and extend that personalisation across the entire relationship, not just at renewal or onboarding.

The businesses that get ahead will be the ones that give fans control, build genuine community, and use data to make every interaction feel personal.
